The Alternatives Of Student Loans
Can you get a good college education without taking up a loan? The answer is yes and there are a few ways you can do it. You can be really rich, but that is unrealistic. Here are a few simple ways you can make college financing work; this list is for students and parents:
- Save! It sounds easy but if you save some of your money over the course of your life or your child's life you will have a nice kitty to help pay for college.
- Invest. The proper investments can help you pay for a college education.
- Live at home. If you live at home you can save a ton of money on living costs, dorm costs and mandatory meal plans.
- Community College: Community colleges offer the same level of undergraduate general studies education as most major universities do and for half the cost.
These are basic ways you can save for college. Investing is very popular as well as saving money but these two options requires that you have gotten a head start. If you have no money saved up and you do not want to take out a loan and you just graduated high school then you are going to have to do everything in your power to get funded. This includes scholarships and grants.
- Scholarships- Every year there are thousands of scholarships offered. Scholarships can pay up to the entire cost of your education. You can qualify for a scholarship based on your academic record, your athletic skills, ethnicity, cultural background, family background, major and variety of other factors. Scholarships are not only good because they pay for education but they can also span your entire college life.
- Grants- Grants can be more of a one time payment option. Grants can range in price from low, $500, to close to the entire cost of your tuition. Grants are usually more of a one time thing where as scholarships can pay for your education for multiple years. Like scholarships there are many different types of grants that you can receive.
There are alternatives to getting a student loan. Scholarships and grants, however, can be really hard to get. Sometimes a student loan is your best option. |
